Denver Health is now operating another vaccination clinic, this time inside the new Outpatient Medical Center (OMC). REMINDER: Open Forum for COVID-19 Vaccine Questions, Tuesday February 9

This evening at 7:30 PM, Dr. James Gaensbauer, Pediatric Infectious Disease physician will lead a second Webex forum on COVID-19 Vaccinations. The intention of this forum is to help answer staff questions about the vaccine. An invitation is attached at the top of this huddle sheet and will be available in the next couple of huddle sheets.

We are extending this invite to any staff with the hopes that an open dialogue will help individuals make an informed decision for themselves.

To participate in the WebEx please add the attached invite to your calendar for this evening, February 9, 2021 from 7:30 – 8:30 PM and come ready with questions.

To view the first forum, please see the recording here.

REMINDER: Denver Moves to Level Yellow on COVID-19 Dial

Denver – The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will move Denver to Level Yellow on the State’s COVID-19 dial effective at 9 a.m. Saturday. The move comes with increased capacity limits at many local businesses.

Level Yellow capacity limits include:

· 50 percent or 50 people (or up to 150 people within their usable space calculated using the Distancing Space Calculator), indoors at restaurants

· 50 percent or 50 people, whichever is fewer, at gyms and fitness businesses

· 11 p.m. on-premises last call for alcohol service

· 50 percent capacity at offices (remote work is still encouraged)

· 50 percent capacity for retail businesses

· Eligibility for outdoor site-specific variances

REMINDER: Changes to Ambulatory COVID Smartset - Rapid Testing Added

We have made two changes in the Ambulatory COVID Smartset.

First, the old ‘Flu A/B and RSV’ test was eliminated because we no longer use that in the ambulatory setting.

Second, that test has been replaced by the ‘Fluvid’ test, which includes tests for SARS-CoV-2, influenza A, influenza B, and RSV.

The option to order a SARS-CoV-2 test alone still remains. In general, patients with respiratory symptoms should receive the ‘Fluvid’ test due to overlap in the clinical presentation of these infections.

REMINDER: Employee Side Effects of COVID-19 Vaccine and Coming to Work

Common side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine include fever, chills, headaches, pain at the injection site and fatigue. After receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, you may consider taking acetaminophen or NSAIDs to try and minimize the potential side effects. If you develop these side effects, you may still come to work wearing appropriate PPE.

The screening questions you are required to answer prior to coming to work will be modified to include language specific to having received the COVID-19 vaccine. However, because these symptoms can also be consistent with COVID-19 infection, if the symptoms last longer than 48 hours after vaccination or if you develop any new respiratory symptoms (rhinorrhea, cough, shortness of breath) or other COVID-19 symptoms (sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or new loss of taste or smell) after vaccination, you will need to either leave work or stay home from work and complete the Employee Survey to determine if COVID-19 testing is needed.

REMINDER: Distinguishing Side Effects of COVID-19 Vaccine from Symptoms of COVID among Patients

Common side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine include pain or redness at the injection site, body aches, headache, fatigue, chills, and sometimes fever. However, because these symptoms can also be consistent with COVID-19 infection, if the symptoms last longer than 48 hours after vaccination or if your patient develops any new respiratory symptoms (rhinorrhea, cough, shortness of breath) or other COVID-19 symptoms (sore throat, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or new loss of taste or smell) after vaccination, alternative etiologies should be considered and testing for COVID-19 should be performed.
