What You Need to Know

As of 6:30 a.m. today, Denver Health had 27 inpatient COVID-19 cases (-5 from yesterday).

For more information, please visit the Denver Public Health COVID-19 Data Summary (please use Edge or Chrome). The website is updated daily and contains data on cases, hospitalization, deaths, testing and symptom monitoring.

NEW: Denver Health Staff Vaccination Numbers

Updated at 4:15 PM today

  • 2,374 employees and residents have received their first dose of vaccine.
  • 1,701 employees and residents have scheduled their second dose of vaccine.
  • 1,200 employees and residents are on the upcoming schedules for first doses.
  • 1,328 employees and residents have active MyChart accounts and have scheduling tickets, but have not scheduled a first dose yet.
  • 358 employees and residents have not activated their MyChart accounts yet.

NEW: Remember to Schedule 2nd Dose of Vaccine

The current COVID vaccines require 2 doses to be maximally effective. If you received your 1st dose of the Pfizer vaccine, you must schedule your 2nd dose of the Pfizer vaccine using MyChart. The 2nd dose should be given between 17 and 21 days after the 1st dose, but it may be given after 21 days if your schedule doesn’t permit you to receive it in the ideal timeframe. If you have not already done so, please schedule your 2nd dose now at MyChart.DenverHealth.org.

REMINDER: Holiday Meal for Employees Working on Dec. 25

Thanks to a partnership between Patient Experience and Food and Nutrition Services, employees working on Christmas can pick up a complimentary holiday meal (special menu only) at the Good Day Café between 11am and 2pm on December 25th. Employees must wear masks and follow social distancing at all times in the Good Day Café

UPDATE: COVID-19 Hospital Capacity Surge Plan

Denver Health continues to update its Surge Plan. This is the roadmap for how we increase the number of hospital beds and staff to meet the demand for clinical care created by the pandemic. In this short video, Dr. Tom MacKenzie, Chief Quality Officer, explains what the Surge Plan means for Denver Health and why we need it. Denver Health is currently at Level 5.1 in its Surge Plan. UPDATE: Colorado Healthy Families & Workplaces Act (HFWA)

The Governor has extended the public health emergency declaration through 1/31/2021. As a result, the leave available to employees under the Colorado Health Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA) will continue to be available until the public health emergency order is lifted and for 4 weeks following the end of the emergency. Employees will continue to follow the current process for accessing this leave as needed by coding their missing time to D_ILL, then completing the HFWA application found here (Application ) and submitting this to the leave of absence (LOA) team at LOAFMLProcess@dhha.org as soon as possible after the absence. As a reminder, employees can take this time when an employee is:

1. Subject to a quarantine or isolation order related to COVID;

2. Being advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine due to COVID concerns;

3. Experiencing COVID symptoms (including side effects of the vaccine) and seeking a medical diagnosis;

4. Caring for another individual who is subject to a quarantine or isolation order related to COVID or due to COVID concerns;

5. Caring for the employee’s child whose school, place of care, or child care provider is closed or unavailable due to COVID related concerns; and

6. Experiencing other substantially similar conditions.

Employees have access to up to two (2) weeks of paid time off per public health emergency under this act. Employees who have already used their two full weeks of leave, and then experience complications or side effects of the vaccine will be provided with one additional day (shift) of leave per dose received.

Employees needing additional time off will use their PTO, Short Term Disability if eligible or go unpaid. Additional information about other aspects of the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplace Act will be communicated in January.

Non-benefitted employees (intermittent) would follow the same process defined above (use of D_ILL code and submission of HFWA application). Following HFWA application approval, reimbursement of time would take the form of paid hours instead of PTO payback.

REMINDER: COVID-19 Staffing Request

As we continue to work through the COVID-19 surge, the IC Logistics Team has developed an updated, simple process to request temporary labor when COVID-specific staffing resources are needed. This process uses SmartSheet to ensure streamlined tracking of requests and expedite approval.

REMINDER: COVID-19 Vaccination Registration & Process
Note: Please review, and if needed, print and post the below communication (attached as a PDF) to staff common areas, and have copies on hand for those who need them.

For all those who have not completed the registration process, please do the following:

1. Fill Out the COVID-19 Vaccination Pre-registration Form: All employees should have received the pre-registration invite. All staff should complete this form to indicate if they are interested in, might be interested, or not interested in receiving the vaccine. If you change your mind at any time, email COVID_Vaccine@dhha.org to request another form.

2. Ensure You Have a MyChart Account (Setup Help is Available): Communication about vaccine scheduling will be sent to the email associated with your MyChart account when your vaccine time comes up. If you do not have a MyChart account, you will receive an invite to set one up. If you are having trouble setting up your MyChart account, or scheduling:

IMPORTANT: If you believe you are included in the 1A/1B group, but have not received expected communication on next steps:

  • Log In to MyChart to see if you have an invitation for vaccine registration.
    For login or support help: Call MyChart support (303-602-4380)
  • If no invitation to register exists in MyChart, email COVID_Vaccine@dhha.org

3. Receive Your Invitation: Once your MyChart account is active, you will receive an invitation to schedule your first of two appointments through MyChart. For 1A/1B groups, these invitations were sent to those who indicated interest in receiving the vaccine. Important note: You need to LOG IN to MyChart to view the invitation to schedule the vaccination. The push from MyChart to email might not happen if you have blocked emails from MyChart or if you have a different email associated with MyChart than you usually use. Contact MyChart support for any MyChart access issues.

4. Schedule Your Vaccine: Schedule your appointment before you are scheduled to be off for a day or two in case you have mild post-vaccine symptoms. If not possible, schedule the next best option and notify your manager so they may work with you to facilitate coverage while you leave the unit to get vaccinated or if you feel ill after receiving it.

5. Get Your First Dose; Schedule Your Second: After your vaccine appointment is complete, you will wait 15 minutes to be monitored for a reaction. During that time, you will receive an invite through MyChart to schedule your 2nd vaccination.

Note: We are optimistic all employees in the 1A/1B prioritization groups will be offered the vaccine by Jan. 15, due to the arrival of the Moderna vaccine the week of Dec. 21. Future vaccine clinics, likely in early January, will be offered at sites other than the main campus. If you need to wait to be vaccinated until a later date, Denver Health will work with you to get you vaccinated.
