What You Need to Know

As of 6:30 a.m. today, Denver Health had 33 inpatient COVID-19 cases (+1 from yesterday).

For more information, please visit the Denver Public Health COVID-19 Data Summary (please use Edge or Chrome). The website is updated daily and contains data on cases, hospitalization, deaths, testing and symptom monitoring.

NEW: Denver Health Staff Vaccination Numbers

These vaccination numbers were updated at 2:45pm Jan. 8.

  • 4,318 employees and residents have received their first dose of vaccine.
  • 3,365 employees and residents have scheduled their second dose of vaccine.
  • 1,000 employees and residents are on the upcoming schedules for first doses.
  • 1,521 employees and residents have active MyChart accounts and have scheduling tickets, but have not scheduled a first dose yet.
  • 419 employees and residents have not activated their MyChart accounts yet.

NEW: Vaccine Symptoms and PTO

Employees who need to take time off due to normal COVID vaccine side effects, whether that be the day after the first dose or the day after the second dose, can do so under the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (HFWA).

In order to have this time covered under HFWA, employees or their supervisors need to code the time as D_ILL, and complete the HFWA application. This means PTO may be used at first and will be given back once the application is processed.

The application needs to be returned to the Leave of Absence office at LOAFMLProcess@dhha.org as soon as possible after the leave is taken.

Employees who have already taken the maximum amount of time eligible under the HFWA (2 weeks of leave) will be given one additional day of leave to cover this absence. Any absences beyond that will be covered by PTO or go unpaid.

Additionally, the day of leave following the employee receiving the COVID-19 vaccine only applies to DH employees. Contractors need to work through their staffing agency for Healthy Families and Workplaces leave.

REMINDER: Vaccine Ordering for patients

As a reminder, no vaccine orders for patients should be made by providers unless authorized to do so. If a patient does not currently fit the profile of 70+ with an established history within the last three years at Denver Health, then we are not prioritizing them at this time. This is extremely important as we have a commitment to the state to only vaccinate this group at this time. We are working on a process to automatically send invites for new 70+ patients and or those who have had a recent birthday and now fall under that criteria.

REMINDER: Updates Regarding 2nd Vaccine Dose Timing, Appointment Availability and Rescheduling

In order to avoid scheduling issues, we are strongly encouraging all employees to schedule their second vaccine appointment right after their first.

Once you complete your first vaccination you will receive another MyChart invitation for the second. As you sit and wait in the adjacent room, please access MyChart on your phone for available times.

If you were previously unable to schedule your second dose within the recommended 17 – 25 day window, instructions on how to reschedule your appointment can be found here. We have also attached the instructions to this Huddle Sheet for you to print out, post or share with your staff.

REMINDER: PPE Quality and Quantity Feedback

As we have seen throughout our Covid response, the marketplace has been interrupted and depleted which has led to the use of substitutes for common products. All substitute items, PPE included, undergoes review before being introduced for staff use. ICC_Logistics would ask, if you or your department have any questions or concerns about the quality or quantity of your PPE, please, reach out to ICC_Logistics@dhha.org. If you are reporting an issue please look to capture Lot #’s from packaging and save any defects. We want your input—early and often. And know this—on a daily basis, the Logistics team is actively pursuing high quality, high value substitutes to keep us well stocked and stable for whatever may come next. We rely on our clinical staff to provide feedback—good, bad, or otherwise.
